About

We wanted to create a forum for young professionals, specifically of African American descent, to socialize, network and serve their community.  An auxiliary group of the Urban League of Rochester, the Black Young Professionals' (BYP) mission is to help secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.  Our focus is on the development and economic empowerment and service for young professionals in the Rochester Area. Founded in 2012, BYP has made its presence known through community service events, socials and regularly supporting other worthy causes in the Greater Rochester Area.

Members are encouraged to join committees that they feel best complement their talents and abilities. Below is a list of committees currently seeking members:

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee meets as needed to provide support and make key decisions on the planning of fundraising events and the solicitation of donations for the fundraisers held and for the organization as a whole. As we are a non-profit group, the Fundraising Committee helps us to ensure that we make enough funds to have monetary support for all of our ongoing events and initiatives. This group will meet as needed with a time commitment that will be increased around the time of fundraisers with breaks between events.

Social Committee

The Social Committee meets as needed to help plan and prepare for our monthly social networking events. While meetings of the committee will sometimes be held in person, many “meetings” will take place via conference call or e-mail in order to divide and organize logistics for each month’s event. Under the guidance of the Executive Board, the Social Committee members will come up with ideas on venues, food, sponsors and collaborations with other organizations. This group will meet monthly (often via conference call or e-mail) in advance of each month’s event.

Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee meets twice a quarter to plan our quarterly professional development seminars and coordinates topics, speakers, and location. This Committee will work to organize all logistics and advertising for each of the professional development seminars. This group will meet as needed with a time commitment that will be increased around the time of professional development seminars with breaks between events.
